Dispelling
a few myths about hypnosis
Control First and
foremost you cannot be controlled by anyone using hypnosis. This is
a common mistake brought about by stage hypnosis. It appears that
the stage hypnotist has complete control over the volunteer but that's
not the case at all - people involved in stage shows want to act out the
suggestions they are given and they can refuse to do so if they
wish. HypnoHelpMe doesn't deal in stage show tricks but is a
professional practice where we use hypnosis and therapy to create
positive and effective change in your life. At any point in the therapy
session you can open your eyes and bring yourself out of hypnosis if you
wish to - you are in control at all times.
Getting
Stuck You can't get stuck in hypnosis! There is
no magic word to put you into hypnosis or bring you out of it that only
the hypnotist knows. Hypnosis is a safe and natural state of
relaxation - have you ever heard of anyone getting stuck in
relaxation? In the very worst case if you went into hypnosis and
the hypnotist left the room, you would probably notice that it was very
quiet and nothing seemed to be happening and you would open your eyes
and bring yourself out of hypnosis.
My
Mind is too Strong to be Hypnotised! Great! If you have
a really strong mind then all the better - you'll be able to put
yourself in hypnosis so easily. I say "put yourself in
hypnosis", because it's you who decides whether to go into hypnosis or not -
I simply act as your guide helping you go into hypnosis. Hypnosis is safe and natural - once
you're in hypnosis, I can start to use the "therapy bit" to
help you - see Therapy for more information on
this. In fact, hypnosis is something that your body and mind
learns to do and the more you do it, the better you'll be at it.
